Diageo - East African Breweries Limited

Based in Nairobi, Kenya; East African Breweries Limited (EABL) is owned by Diageo and is a regional leader in beverage alcohol with an exceptional collection of brands across beer and spirits.  EABL planned to move its corporate offices to a new space at the Garden City Business Park, adjacent to its old offices; taking circa. 3,000 sqm across 4 floors of this newly completed Grade A office complex.

ChangeWorq was appointed by the project team to develop a workplace strategy, and change management programme, working in close collaboration with Orbit Design from Bangkok.

We engaged with the leadership team and gained an understanding of what EABL was looking to achieve.  Next, we conducted an extensive data gathering exercise so we could understand how staff were working and the quantify the improvements that needed to be made in the new design.

From the vision and analytics, the team agreed that a shift to Activity Based Working (ABW) would be the right approach to drive performance, improve the interaction between teams, and make optimal use of the new space.

ChangeWorq developed the Space Budget and the Orbit team implemented a locally inspired design that captured the essence of the EABL brand as well as creating a world class office space for the business to operate.

The space offers a comprehensive mix of shared workstations, focus spaces and a huge variety of locations for adhoc meetings.  Naturally there are a variety of meeting rooms for internal and external partner meetings, well equipped with advanced audio visual technology for remote meetings with regional and global teams.

A highlight of any Diageo office is the bar, and Nairobi was no exception.  The team created a working bar area on the roof top which is available for staff and partners for product launch activities and other events.  During the day the area is used a working area, so teams can share information and meet in a relaxed setting.
